Huddersfield is a stone town: long runs of Victorian and Edwardian terraces in local sandstone, weavers’ cottages in the Colne and Holme valleys, substantial stone semis and villas around Edgerton and Greenhead Park, and interwar and post-war estates on the outskirts. Much of the stock is pre-1919 and solid-walled.

Solid stone walls manage moisture completely differently from modern cavity construction, so we routinely see penetrating damp misdiagnosed as rising damp, cement pointing and renders trapping moisture in stone that needs to breathe, roof timber wear in older terraces, and movement where valley-side sites and historic mining meet.
03Which survey level — honestly
Level 2 vs 3+
